Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho is one of the world's leading composers, having received numerous commissions and awards from around the world. Saariaho has composed works of every scale from solo pieces to large-scale orchestral works, concertos and works for multimedia and the stage. Marked by a spectral sensibility and a palette that extends towards the fringes of musical sound, her work is noted for its transitions from dark to light, rough to smooth, noise to sound and from nebulous to dense textures. Performed by one of Chicago’s finest, young new music ensembles, the concert will feature chamber works from throughout the course of her career.
