In nightmares of free fall, the saying is, you always wake up before you hit the ground. But what if the ground never comes? That is what makes Lucy a waking dream. Vibrant colors, a compressed sense of space, and the most basic special effects such as a repeating backdrop the likes of which haven't been seen since the golden age of Hanna Barbera, make this work worthy of comparison to the Mannerist paintings of, say, Il Rosso. The protagonist's calm expression and windswept golden locks makes this a descent into Heaven, the purgatory sequel to The Virgin Suicides.
